Work lights on a concrete frame at dusk.

About

Environment, health and safety

A building is judged by the people who made it, and by what the site does to the street.

Environment

Less harm, written down

  • Dust and wash water stay inside the hoarding.
  • Timber formwork is reused until it is honestly finished.
  • Night lighting points down, at the work, not into bedrooms.
  • Shade and ventilation are designed, not added as machines later.

Health

People on the site

  • Drinking water and a clean place to wash.
  • Shade for rest in the hot months.
  • A first-aid box that is actually stocked, and someone who knows it.
  • No one works a slab in open sandals.

Safety

The edge is the rule

  • Guardrails before the next pour, not after the inspection.
  • Harnesses where a rail cannot exist yet.
  • A morning brief when the work changes.
  • Stop-work authority for any supervisor who sees a bad edge.
